An overview of BALI Programs

The Bella Abzug Leadership Institute trains youth 13-21 years old, in leadership and debate skills offering in-school and after-school programs, intensive summer programs, and one day debate training programs throughout the year.

1. NEW - Virtual After School Program

BALI offers a new after-school series of Leadership and Debate Skills workshops as a branch of our Journey to Leadership Program, which for the first time will be open to everyone in NYC five boroughs, 13-18 years old.


2. In- school and after-school Programs

This is an academic year-long leadership program, offering customized leadership and debate workshops to the students attending specific underserved NYC Middle Schools or High Schools located throughout New York City, based on their students’ and community needs.


3. Summer Programs

Our Leadership and Debate Training Summer Programs are offered to students 13-21 years old, attending schools in the NYC Metropolitan Area. We offer two two-week cohorts of intensive leadership and debate training, customized based on the most important issues concerning our young women NOW! Our summer programs are held at Hunter College, main campus.


4. Millie King Entrepreneurship Program

The Millie King Entrepreneurship Summer Program is an intensive 4day program offering training on how to become a social entrepreneur and how to start and lead a not for profit organization in today’s markets. It is a program offered to entering High School Seniors and College Students.


5. One Day Debate Tournaments

BALI offers One Day Seminars and Citywide Debate Competitions to Middle School and High School students in partnership with the NYC Urban Debate League (NYCUDL)


6. Mentoring Program

A year long program offered to all our BALI alumni who are juniors or seniors in High School. Students will be matched with a professional mentor who works in their intended industry or career.
