In-school and After-school Programs

What is In-school after school program?

BALI offers life-changing in-school and after-school programs to underserved youth attending New York City public schools, aligned with our mission to provide skills based and socio-emotional leadership training for them to become leaders now and in the future.

We are finding that more and more that youth from underrepresented groups, including female-identifying and gender expansive youth in New York City who aspire to become successful leaders in their schools and their communities are in need of the specific academic and professional training, advocacy, empowerment skills and mentoring provided by BALI. In all of our programs, BALI staff, expert trainers and professional mentors are committed to empowering our students and delivering our curricula through a gender specific and social justice lens.

Quick facts:

  • We are currently working with 4 public high schools throughout New York City, offering our programs for free to 100 students, aged 13-18, held at their specific NYC public High School, in full collaboration with the respective school principal, teachers and the BALI staff.

  • Throughout the academic year we will be working with an identified group of students in each school, meeting once or twice a week for a total of 2 hours, from September to June, a total of ten months.

  • We offer a total of 25 workshops in Leadership Skills and Debate Training in public forum and parliamentary style.

  • The schools we are currently working with are Pelham Perparatory Academy, The Young Women Leadership School, and The Urban Assembly of Government and Law.

Who should apply?

Any public middle school or high school in the NYC area that provides service to low income underserved students as well as schools with students participating in the Title I- free or reduced lunch program. These programs are not open for student applications, however students can refer their school to us if they think we would be a good match for them.

How do you apply:

We hope representatives from schools that need these programs will consider applying for our in-school and after-school programs. There is no formal application.
